Solar cell prices in China have plummeted to their lowest values ever, according to OPIS data. Mono M10 and Mono G12 cells both dropped by more than 3% to $0.0865/W and $0.0856/W, respectively. Meanwhile, TOPCon M10 cells fell by 0.41% to $0.0965/W.

The weak module market is a significant factor contributing to the decrease in cell prices, according to one source. Module plants without their own cell capacity have employed "many strategies to reduce production," the source explained. Mono PERC and TOPCon module prices are also at record lows, as reported by OPIS data.
Given the substantial drop in cell prices, there is ongoing debate about whether cell manufacturers will reduce production. Some smaller manufacturers plan to cease operations during China's Golden Week holiday in early October, indicating a pessimistic outlook for the cell market and a decline in cell output, according to an insider.
Others have differing opinions. One source argued that if cell production is to decrease, it will only be a slight reduction. "The overproduction of cells is not as severe compared to the entire supply chain," the source stated, referencing overproduction in the polysilicon, wafer, and module segments.
Another source highlighted that maintaining low prices is the strategy cell makers use to sustain 100% operating rates. The decision to cut cell output heavily depends on the growth rate of wafer supply and the manufacturing strategies of module manufacturers, he said.
"The decrease in module production may inevitably lead to a reduction in cell production by the end of October and the beginning of November," the source added. End-users will likely decrease module purchasing orders as they have already secured enough supply for year-end solar installations.

When switching to solar energy, many homeowners choose to work with a solar installer due to the complexities of installing a solar system. Companies provide access to a variety of high-quality solar panels and help homeowners select the best option.
The cost of installing a solar system in China can vary significantly, sometimes by more than $10,000 depending on several factors. The primary factor is the size of the system, with additional considerations including the equipment chosen, financing options, and the solar company selected.
A critical factor in the cost of a solar system is its size, measured in kilowatts (kW). The more electricity a household consumes, the larger the system it will require. On average, the cost is about $3,800 per kilowatt in China. The choice of solar panel brands also impacts the overall cost; more efficient brands are typically more expensive. Furthermore, the type of equipment needed can affect the total cost. A system that includes only panels will be less expensive than one that also incorporates solar batteries or an electric vehicle charger.
Most solar installers in China offer financing options to reduce the initial cost of installation. It is crucial to consider the long-term costs of loans, including total interest paid over the loan term. High-interest loans can add hundreds or even thousands of dollars to the overall cost. Making a larger down payment or securing a low-interest loan can significantly reduce costs.
The company chosen for solar panel installation will also influence the total cost. Different companies charge varying amounts for equipment and labor. National solar installers may offer lower prices due to their larger-scale operations and bulk purchasing power. Conversely, small, local installation companies might offer deals or specials to compete with larger firms.
